As a birth doula, my philosophy is to support, inform, and guide you through your own journey. I will provide evidence based information and resources to help you make decisions about your birth, supporting you every step of the way, from the prenatal stages of your pregnancy, through labor and delivery, and postpartum support. Whether planning a birth at a hospital, birth center, or at home, the presence of a doula will be an essential asset to your birthing experience, leading to a more satisfying and enriching experience.
Why I doula:
As I reflected on my two childbirth experiences, one an unexpected hospital birth and one in my home, I developed a passionate desire to help mothers and their partners during this powerful, life altering experience. I wanted to be able to support and educate families when they are faced with pregnancy and birth related decisions. With access to reliable and unbiased information, you will have the best possible birth…your birth. After many discussions with those who have mentored me, I discovered that there was a name for what I felt I needed to do… doula. This led to my doula training through DONA International.
My childbirth experiences:
For the birth of my first daughter, I chose a birthing center for my prenatal care and delivery. Unfortunately, I were transferred to an Obstetrician’s office at my 35th week of gestation due to preeclampsia. I was suddenly having my first baby, in an unfamiliar setting with unfamiliar people. I was uninformed about my health condition, my options, and the effects the medical interventions imposed would have on my baby or myself. I would ruminate over my experience and how differently it could have been if only I had someone to consult, assist, and inform my husband and I of our options; someone to ask questions, and to support us through this experience. Just over two years later, I had my second daughter. Being far more informed, I had a wonderful intervention-free home birth experience with my midwife and husband.
My location and education:
I moved to Tallahassee, FL in 2002 to attend Florida State University, where I studied Child Development, and Psychology. Here, I met my wonderful husband and we have lived here since, with our beautiful little girls.
